Life in a city of some size is never dull. The poor huddle for warmth behind the churches and mansions of the upper crust, thieves and smugglers dodge the king’s guards, merchants hunt for the perfect bargain, and most people simply try to survive.

A cat-sized dragon burglar with the Coral Reef core quirk collects something one of the characters own or just goes through their belongings for the sheer fun of it. May visit several times before they realize who, or rather, what is making a mess of their stuff.
A sick, wounded, or injured person begs the characters for help getting healed, or at least in getting to the nearest place of healing.
An arrogant noble and his or her retinue barge past, shoving people out of their way and taking offence if people refuse to move. The noble may give slow-to-move heroes the tongue lashing of their lives, or—if they look like people worthy of respect—challenge them to a duel of honour.
A very drunk person of wealthy appearance staggers down one of those alleys he should have been avoiding. Will the heroes protect him or her from muggers—or will they be the muggers?
Don’t diss the classics; the heroes are approached by a concerned parent, or otherwise come into contact with a young woman wasting away from an unidentifiable disease and sleepwalking at night. She is the victim of a vampire feeding on her night after night until she eventually succumbs. In the best of Lucy Westenra style, the young woman will not tell anyone about her nightly visitor and fancies herself deeply in love with the vampire (who will forget her the instant she’s dead – in fact, he’s already got his eyes on his next lovely young victim). Bonus points for role reversal—the maid is a young man, and the vampire is a lady of high society.
