Need a random trap to throw at your players? Fear no more, we have what you’re looking for. Or at least something like it. Hey, you may have to jury-rig it and fuse a few wire, but it should run. More or less.
The traps suggested are generic; they may need a little adaptation to your game system of choice. Some may seem familiar; they’ve made the rounds on the internet in various forms, and it’s nigh impossible not to be inspired by them in some way or other.
Have an idea of your own? Feel very encouraged to add it in the comments or mail it to us. We’re delighted to give credit and a linkback for usable traps suggestions.

A large wooden door bars the way. It has no less than six doorknobs — and attempting to turn the wrong one triggers an explosive trap. The correct knob is known only to the game master, and there are no hints or clues as to which it is. This trap is not likely to kill characters, but it will help whittle down their health and healing resources. Turning the right knob causes the door to open in the normal fashion, allowing passage.
The door ahead sports an unusually large keyhole. Hundreds of keys of different sizes and shapes dangle from a rack next to the door. Each key is coated in poison — sleep, paralytics, what have you — or inscribed with dangerous magical runes. The true key is an old, discarded wine bottle in a corner, covered in cobwebs.
A long passage of murky water blocks the way ahead. Two boats are available: one rickety and waterlogged, the other new and elegant. The ‘new’ boat is an illusion, however, and will sink once halfway to the other side. How deep is the water? And what lives in it?To generate more suggestions, simply refresh the page.
