Random Encounter Table

Quick inspiration to throw random encounter style obstacles in the way of your travelling adventuring party. Great for those days you haven’t got the time to prepare something of your own, or you suspect your players have come to know your design style too well.

The random encounters are listed with stats and other required data from the IMAGINES system. Feel free to adapt the suggestions to any other game system as you please.

This generator currently contains 9 entries.

Encounter #1: The Lone Wolf

A lone wolf encountered in the woods turns out to have become corrupted and is now a lot less frightened of people than you’d expect from an old wolf.

At first glance, there is nothing unusual about this animal; local travellers might tell stories of a ghost wolf, though, untouchable by steel and iron and prone to unusual aggression. On closer inspection (usually a lot closer than one might want!), the animal has been corrupted, somehow — it has the eye of a snake, it has insane luck in combat, and you need magical weapons to even scratch it.

Today is not a good day to be prey.

Quirks:

  • Salt kills. Exposure to or ingestion of salt or salt water causes damage at a rate of 1/minute. Accelerated regeneration rates (if any apply) do not apply to salt damage. Snake eyes. The extraplanar has vertically slit eyes like a snake.
  • Chak’hai on All Melee Checks. Whenever the extraplanar is in melee combat she gets to roll all die checks twice, keeping the most favourable result as if a Chak’hai spell was in effect.
  • Immunity to steel and iron. The extraplanar cannot be harmed with non-magical steel or iron; weapons made from these materials pass through her as if she were incorporeal.
